Not All the Effects of Hurricanes are Clear to See

The Trauma Resolution Center, Miami’s leading trauma experts, presents “Building Community Resiliency”, a unique series of FREE workshop events designed to address the pervasive and lingering effects of stress caused by hurricanes. The workshops are designed to promote mental health and wellness services as well as raise the awareness of the effects of trauma on the human body and mind.

For the residents of Miami-Dade County, workshops will specifically focus on the stresses and stressors brought on by hurricanes.

Miami-Dade County is no stranger to the threats posed by an approaching storm. Likewise, preparation before and recovery efforts after a hurricane are almost instinctually ingrained in residents. But as yards are restored, homes repaired and windows replaced, the community overlooks the mending of one of the most important pieces of the recovery process: itself.

Stresses associated with hurricanes include anxieties and worries which if left unchecked can affect job or school performance, relationships and personal wellbeing.

The Community Resiliency Program offers two types of FREE workshops:

  • Pervasive Effects of Stress
  • Building Community Resiliency Workshop (two-day training that results in a certification as a Resiliency Facilitator)

Both events will offer participants the opportunity to:

  • learn the basics about stress and how it effects the human body
  • learn easy-to-use and practical stress-relief exercises
  • learn helpful tips and resiliency techniques for dealing with stress

Community Resiliency FREE Workshop is an interactive two-day workshop designed to empower participants with the skills needed to effectively train others to reduce stress and enhance community resilience. Community Resiliency Workshop creates the perfect environment for participants to engage with peers and instructors. A series of simple, safe and appropriate tools are used and taught during the workshops. These non-clinical and non-interpretive techniques are easy-to-use, practical and have been proven to help relieve stress and create resiliency.

The workshop’s primary goals are to:

  • teach the basics about stress and how it effects the human body
  • teach culturally appropriate tools that help lower stress levels
  • teach a curriculum to be used in your organization or home

Course completion includes full attendance during the two-day workshop, passing a quiz on all course materials, and submitting a follow-up report from two people who learned at least one stress reduction technique and felt an improvement.

Fulfillment of requirements awards certification as a Resiliency Facilitator
